WDYTYA? Live Scotland 2014

This week the team at Deceased Online are packing their suitcases for what should be a fun couple of days in Scotland's largest city. Here I look at what you can expect from the first ever Who Do You Think You Are? Live Scotland and the exciting records you can explore at the Deceased Online stand.

 Everyone at Deceased Online is looking forward to discovering more about their Scottish ancestors and meeting users of our database at the inaugural WDYTYA? Live Scotland on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 August at Glasgow's SECC. As well as having the opportunity to meet stallholders, visitors to the show can enjoy an array of workshops, talks and advice sessions on subjects as varied as Scottish legal documents, tracing First World War ancestors, and DNA.

Deceased Online will be exhibiting alongside local family history societies, our partners at the Scottish Memorial Inscriptions project, plus visiting experts from England, Ireland, Belgium and Australia.
WDYTYA? Live Scotland 2014 will be held at Glasgow's SECC 
On the stall, we'll be showcasing our current Scottish collections as well as answering questions on forthcoming releases. The database now includes burial and cremation records from:

Aberdeen City Council
Aberdeenshire Council
Angus Council
Kidalton Kirkyard, Isle of Islay
Roshven, Lochailort
Edinburgh Crematorium 

as well as memorial inscriptions for the Scottish Headstone Collections of:

Angus
Argyll
Ayshire
Banffshire
Borders
Clackmannshire
Dundee City
Edinburgh
Fife
Highland
Inverness
Lanarkshire
Lothian
Morayshire
Perthshire
and Stirling.

The first entry in this burial register from Oathlaw Kirkyard in Angus tells us that in lair [or grave] 93, under a large holly bush, is buried Alexander Fode, son of William Fode. The "Remarks" column on the right reads, "Stone with Latin Inscription lie on A. The date may be 1618. Son of William Fode XCIII.A.I. The Son, and not the Father, may be buried under the Stone." 
Later this year we will be releasing more records from Morayshire and there will be additions from other areas in 2015.

All Kensal Green Cemetery Records Available

All records for Kensal Green Cemetery and West London Crematorium are now available to search on the database From this week, all 330,000 records for Kensal Green Cenetery and West London Crematorium can be searched on Deceased Online . They include all burial and cremation records from 1833 to 2010. This release heralds the exclusive digitisation of records on the site from two of the 'Magnificent Seven' cemeteries. And we have more to come soon. Watch this space! Among the famous names included in this latest release of records is the iconic sixties and seventies designer, Ossie Clark (1942-1996) . Immortalized in the 1971 painting (above), Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy , by his friend, David Hockney, Clark dressed Mick Jagger, Marianne Faithfull, Liza Minnelli and the Beatles. New Maps Online for St Peter's Cemetery and Churchyard

New data for Scotland will be appearing on Deceased Online over the next couple of weeks. Here we give you an insight into our holdings on the cemeteries of Aberdeen. The ‘Granite City’, as Scotland's third largest city is known, features strongly in the Deceased Online database . You can search around 248,000 records from nine cemeteries and burial grounds, including St Nicholas Churchyard, Trinity Churchyard, Nigg Cemetery, John Knox Churchyard, St Peter's Cemetery - linked with Spital Churchyard, St Clement's Churchyard, Old Machar Churchyard, Grove Cemetery and Nellfield Cemetery. We have just added detailed grave location maps of Spitak (aka St Peter’s) Churchyard and St Peter’s Cemetery. Located in the north of the city, these two cemeteries form one vast graveyard. The Deceased Online database contains registers, which date from 1767, for over 160,000 burials. Besides the registers are the Dues Books. For the earliest dates these cover the date of burial...
