Deceased Online adds burial records for the magnificent  West Norwood Cemetery in south London   We are very excited to announce the release of records for West Norwood Cemetery , one of London’s 'Magnificent Seven'. A total of 165,000 records have been uploaded to the   database   of this significant collection, which dates from 1837 to 2005.  This beautiful cemetery, one of the 'Magnificent Seven' Victorian cemeteries, was founded in 1836 and is home to a great many listed monuments. The cemetery maintains a place in the English Heritage National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, and is recognised as a site of nature conservation value within Lambeth. This week Deceased Online adds burial records for the magnificent  Highgate Cemetery in north London   We are very excited to announce the release of records for Highgate Cemetery , one of London’s 'Magnificent Seven'. A total of 160,000 records have been uploaded to the database  of this significant collection, which dates from 1839 to 2010. They include coverage of the first three decades: 1840 to the early 1870s, with a gap in the records from 1863 to 1865. Today Deceased Online launches the burial records for the Magnificent Cemetery of Nunhead in South London. Below I explore the history of the cemetery and highlight some of the notable burials in this new collection. Nunhead is one of London's Magnificent Seven Cemeteries that were laid out around the edge of the capital in the mid-19th century. Located in the populous London Borough of Southwark SE15 , in the words of the Friends of Nunhead Cemetery (FONC) , Nunhead is "the most attractive of the seven". As early as 1878, the writer and genealogist Edward Walford (1823-1897) was celebrating the beauty of the site as follows: Nunhead Cemetery, covering an area of about fifty acres, occupies the summit of some rising ground, whence a good view is obtained of the surrounding neighbourhood. Records for the second ‘Magnificent Seven’ cemetery in the Deceased Online database will be released on Boxing Day We are delighted to announce, just in time for Christmas, that all cremation and burial records from 1833 to 1901 for Kensal Green Cemetery will be launched on the database this week. Later records will be available in the New Year. When all 340,000 records are on the site (by early February), there will be over 3 million individual burial and cremation records for London available on Deceased Online representing approximately 8 million data items. The Kensal Green records include those of the West London Crematorium (est. 1939), which is located in the grounds of the Cemetery.
