Once again Deceased Online is exhibiting at Who Do You Think You Are? Live, the biggest genealogy show in the world. We look forward to welcoming everyone to stand 644 and demonstrating our latest collection of burial records from Aberdeenshire.
This year's Who Do You Think You Are? Live is taking place at the Olympia Exhibition Centre in west London from Thursday 20th to Saturday 22nd February. Deceased Online's stand 644 will be the biggest we've had to date.
As ever, we're really looking forward to meeting database users and
demonstrating the website. There will also be opportunities to enjoy limited
free searches, which feature our latest collections. These include the first batch of Aberdeenshire records. If you have London ancestors, you'll be pleased to learn that the number of London records available has
been doubled and we've also added extensive military and other records from The National Archives since WDYTYA? Live 2013.
We are also offering subscriptions for the first time which we're launching next week. For heavy users of data on the website, this will hopefully be a more economically beneficial way to help access and download records.
A small batch of records from our Aberdeenshire Council collection will be available to view on the website from the afternoon of 14th February 2014. There are more than 200 burial grounds located over these 6 registration areas:
My JOLLY Ancestors
I'm particularly excited about this release as my JOLLY ancestors originate in the old county of Kincardineshire, which is now administrated by Aberdeenshire Council. In fact, a James Stuart Jolly OBE is found in the Huntly records. I'll be sharing my family discoveries over the next few weeks, and would like to hear from others who find ancestors in this collection.
The full list of burial grounds
in the Aberdeenshire collection can be seen at the Council's website: https://www.aberdeenshire.gov. uk/registrars/burial_grounds. asp.
Book Competition
Following on from last week's post by Times sketch writer, Ann Treneman, we have 3 signed copies of her latest book, Finding the Plot: 100 graves to visit before you die (The Robson Press, 2013), to give away. Part travelogue, part biography and part social history, this enjoyable book is made up of 100 entries of interesting graves. Several of these can be found in Deceased Online's burial records.
Please answer the two following questions by Sunday 23 February. Both questions feature people and graves found in Ann's book and the Deceased Online database:
(i) Name Queen Victoria's loyal personal servant and friend who was born in Aberdeenshire and on his death at Windsor Castle, was returned to be buried in Crathie Kirkyard?
(ii) David Edward Sutch was a rock musician and eccentric who founded a political party which has contested thousands of constituencies in dozens of elections. What is the full name that he's better known by and what is the name of his famous political party?
